The picture quality on this dvd, isn't as good as on the newer episodes,
which is understandable. After all, they are 14 years old. Though I guess
I expected that they would clean it up better, before they released this
Lots of extra material..... Let's begin with the audio commentaries. Matt
Groening contributes on most of them, with lots of interesting information.
(I learned how he came up with the idea for Krusty the Clown.) The episode's
producers are also talking about the episodes. They seem to have a good
time together, and they often comment on their own jokes. Overall very
On the first disc
we can also find the scripts from the episodes "Bart the Genius"
and "Bart the General". I thought they were rather boring, but
some of you will probably like it. On disc number 2, you can the script
from "Moaning Lisa".
Disc three has only
three episodes, which means that there's room for more extra material,
and they have filled it up! First there's outtakes from an unaired version
of "Some Enchanted Evening". The picture and the sound is horrible,
and it's really not that funny to watch.
Next we can see how
they animated some clips from "Bart the General". This is narrated
by Matt Groening and David Silverman. "The Making of The Simpsons"
includes interviews with Matt Groening, James L. Brooks and Al Jean. This
is probably the most interesting thing, of all the extra material. It
lasts for about 5 minutes.
We can also find clips
with foreign languages, the first Tracey Ullman short "Good Night
Simpsons", outtakes from Albert Brooks audio from "Life on the
fast lane" and art of the Simpsons, which includes Matt Groening's
"Life in Hell" cartoons, early sketches and drawings + covers
This dvd is definately worth the price. Season 1 is a very good season,
with lots of classic moments. This dvd also includes lots extra material
we haven't seen before.
